Hello

I’m John-Luke Grob, but you can call me JL! I’m a junior at Anderson University in South Carolina, pursuing a BFA in Graphic Design. My journey as a designer has been defined by a deep passion for creating meaningful, imaginative and visually appealing solutions that make a difference.

From designing my own typeface to building a productivity app ecosystem, I thrive on tackling challenges that require both creativity and precision. My work is rooted in a philosophy of simplicity, where every element serves a purpose and every detail counts. Whether I’m sketching out a design for a product, building a brand identity, or crafting the perfect user interface, my focus is on turning ideas into experiences that feel seamless, intuitive, and timeless.

As a designer, I do not see myself just as a problem solver, but as an innovator; someone who is not afraid to wonder. My aim for projects is to blend functionality with personality, always keeping the end user in mind.

I take pride in hard work, originality, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for myself. When I’m not immersed in my projects, you can find me continuing to pursue what I love—exploring new technology, brainstorming my next big idea, or itching to continue crossing National Parks off my bucket list.

Goals

Design + Art Goals 🎯

🖥️ DESIGN

I don't aim to create "good" designs. Good design relies on principles like color, typography, and layout to look visually appealing, but my goal is to create great designs—designs that solve real problems and provide meaningful solutions using good design. Like in any creative field, I strive to push myself, challenge my limits, and never settle for complacency. I’m always looking for ways to improve and refine my work. As a graphic designer, my goal isn’t just to create quality designs, but to collaborate with clients and other designers, design with purpose, and always keep the end user at the center of my work. I don’t design just for the sake of aesthetics—if that were the case, it would simply be art. I design to solve, to communicate, and to enhance. I don't decorate, I create solutions.

Beliefs

🖋️ TYPOGRAPHY

Typography is an area I haven’t fully explored yet, and that’s something I’m eager to dive into. After focusing on more ambitious goals in my other creative pursuits, it’s refreshing to turn my attention to typography as a new challenge. I want to understand what makes a great typeface, explore different letter styles, and refine both the visual and conceptual aspects of creating letterforms. It’s an opportunity to deepen my craft and expand my creative process.

"A truly successful design is not successful unless it has failed. True innovation,
creativity, and clever design often emerge when faced with failure."
