BRIEF + OVERVIEW

The senior project brief offered the opportunity to spearhead a self-directed investigation, defining unique goals and research parameters across any chosen medium. This framework for absolute creative agency allowed for an immersive exploration of a conceptually significant topic, unfettered by traditional design constraints. Navigating the complexities of an open-ended prompt necessitated pushing the boundaries of a personal design practice to reach a higher level of execution. This intensive and self-defined creative journey served as the catalyst for the inception of a personal project.

SOLUTION

Research into digital consumption patterns revealed a recurring cycle of "doom-scrolling," where users seek relaxation through short-form media but instead experience increased cognitive fatigue and emotional depletion. Existing interventions, such as punitive app-blockers or high-effort mindfulness platforms, often fail because they require willpower from an already exhausted user. Detoxd addresses this gap by offering a restorative alternative that acknowledges the habit of scrolling while neutralizing the dopamine-driven triggers inherent in traditional interfaces. The system utilizes a minimalist visual language, employing a strategic grayscale hierarchy and muted tones to reduce the visual overstimulation that fuels compulsive usage. By integrating behavioral psychology with a low-friction user experience, the platform transitions users from passive consumption to intentional consumption, providing a sustainable path toward digital wellness and mental clarity.
