BRIEF + OVERVIEW

Pediatric healthcare environments often lack durable play solutions that provide the same level of discovery and wonder available to mobile children. Conventional toys in clinical settings frequently face challenges regarding sanitation, limited longevity, and low engagement potential. This project focused on developing a tactile, reusable solution designed for frequent use by children confined to hospital beds. The brief necessitated a balance between the rigors of clinical hygiene and the developmental need for self-directed, creative exploration.

FIXED CURIO TRAY.jpg

SOLUTION

The Curio Tray is a tactile play system designed to transform medical overbed tables into spaces for creative and cognitive growth. Crafted from precision-cut wood with a protective finish, the tray meets clinical sanitation standards while maintaining a safe, hardware-free construction. It features a reversible, dual-purpose activity module and integrated storage to facilitate both structured learning and open-ended play. This intervention provides a durable, multi-sensory experience that fosters agency and discovery for children in long-term care.
