BRIEF + OVERVIEW
This branding initiative focused on the comprehensive revitalization of a visual identity for a designated wildlife or outdoor attraction. Starting only with a client assignment, the brief required independent research to establish a deep understanding of the site’s unique characteristics and audience. These findings formed the strategic basis for the development of a cohesive visual identity system. The process concluded with a formal pitch, presenting a design solution rooted in the initial research and discovery phase.

SOLUTION
The solution is a comprehensive visual identity for Bear Island Wildlife Management Area, rooted in the concept of unfiltered nature. Developed from firsthand immersion in the park’s raw, silent landscapes, the system honors the site’s status as a premier sanctuary for birders and conservationists. The primary mark is a mallard silhouette mid-flight, discovered through mathematical precision to ensure a form that feels born of the natural world rather than human interference. This geometric philosophy extends into Mallard Sans, a bespoke typeface with four weights that features a hidden typographic ligature; when the letters 'U' and 'P' are brought together, they echo the mallard mark—a subtle call for visitors to "look up,” and a reference to the campaign of the “Untamed Paradise.” The brand’s palette is derived directly from the avian species found within the park, such as the deep, oil-slick tones of the Cormorant and the statuesque white of the Egret. By intentionally avoiding over-commercialization, the identity recedes into the background of the environment, appearing on quiet signage, seasonal calendars, and guided resources that respect the untamed stillness of this coastal paradise.
